Tane's Tree Trust Launched on West Coast.

Tane's Tree Trust West Coast launch took place on the weekend of 28/29th May.

Already well established elsewhere in New Zealand Tane’s Tree Trust’s vision is to see the majority of New Zealand landowners successfully planting and sustainably managing indigenous trees for multiple uses. The motivation of the trust extend far beyond indigenous timber production. A healthy and profitable indigenous forestry industry is seen as the key to large-scale planting for biodiversity, restoration and legacy purposes.

The trust has been particularly successful in collaborating and networking with other interest groups and compliments other organizations prompting and supporting  the planting and management of native trees for both conservation and sustainable management. During the weekend participants visited New Zealand Sustainable Forest Products Reefton mill to view production processes and finished product.  Veneering of indigenous species and solid and engineered flooring options were discussed in some depth.  On the Sunday participants visited some of the forests managed by the company. The aim was the discussion and dissemination of information about beech silviculture and continuous-cover-forestry regimes with a view to the expected publication of a beech bulletin in coming months.
